BA Film & Sound
In the FILM & SOUND bachelor’s degree, students are trained to plan and realize film projects. To this end, students work together as filmmakers and sound designers in two parallel majors in audio-visual project modules.
The students of the BA degree program FILM & SOUND are trained creatively, technically, scientifically and in basic key competences to such an extent that they can work in film projects in the fictional and documentary fields, but also in experimental and advertising films, as well as in audio-visual forms of presentation for scenographic concepts creative team members can contribute professionally.
In addition to the focus on film with specializations in directing, camera, editing and production, the course also offers training as a film sound designer/sound designer for film with the trades of original sound recording, field recording, sound editing, sound design, Foley, and ADR, bis to the preparation of the mixture. The curriculum of this specialization includes modules from the Institute for Computer Music and Electronic Media (ICEM) at the Folkwang University of the Arts for conducting seminars in music history, acoustics, sound synthesis and electronic composition.
There is a film studio, 160 m2 - 8m high / green screen, analogue and digital cameras (up to 4k resolution), light and sound technology, editing systems, color correction (Da Vinci), sound editing studios (stereo, surround and 14.2) and a 5.1 cinema Lecture Hall (2K DCP) available.
The study of the 7-semester bachelor's program FILM & SOUND concludes with the Bachelor of Arts examination.
The course was started in 2012 as a successor to the “Film/Television (Camera)” degree course that had been established at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences since the 1990s. Since the end of 2016, this course, with its consecutive MA Film and MA Creative Audio Director master's courses, has enjoyed the status of a film school education in the international association CILECT (Centre international de liaison des ecoles de cinéma et de television / The international association of film and television schools).
