wire drawings Pubcikation (Pictures and Design) by Ulrike Brückner
Editor: VEXER, CH / D
In “wire drawings” Ulrike Brückner dealt with useful photographs that are used on platforms such as eBay. These used cable scraps are often piled up in boxes or piles for sale and presented in private rooms lying on the floor. The cable photographs spontaneously remind her of virtuoso drawings or paintings with an expressive style. She appropriates these photographs by experimenting with motifs and image space and replacing the original surroundings with black, partially processed backgrounds. In this way she composes new visual worlds. The contextual shift changes the view of the motifs and the multi-faceted beauty of the cable arrangements emerges. This effect is reinforced by the serial representation in the publication. Another exaggeration takes place in the edition of the same name. The artist had one of the amateur pictures digitally post-processed and is now presenting us with a pile of cables as a large-format panel painting. The publication is supported by the text “Photos on the market place. Personal image aesthetics on eBay ”accompanied by Jens Ruchatz.
