Samaneh Khosravi is a photographer who was born and raised in Iran and deals with issues relating to the perception of others and of themselves by women living in Iran. In the course of her studies, she would have the opportunity to examine different aspects and to document them from different perspectives on the basis of photography. During her bachelor's degree in the design department of the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences, she examined, among other things, the development of female fashion under the restrictions and religious guidelines prevailing in Iran. During her bachelor's project, this research led to a book project entitled Among Women - Beauty Ideal in Iran, which was published in 2015 by Kerber Verlag. Following on from this, in her master's thesis Banoo she looked at the social perception of women within the current socio-political framework and accompanied various women in their daily work, whether at home as a housewife or as a co-pilot of a passenger aircraft in the air. She supplemented this practical work with a scientific work entitled “Representations of women by contemporary Iranian women photographers”, with a special focus on the point of view of three women photographers from different generations, placing the photos in a socio-historical context, which shows the progress and regression of women's rights chronologically could.
In her lecture she gives an insight into her photo projects and scientific work and thereby traces the central theme that is the basis of her future research project today.
Short biography
The Iranian photographer Samaneh Khosravi, born in Iran in 1984, moved to Germany in 2008. She studied BA Photography and MA Photography - Photographic Studies at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences. In 2014 she received the DAAD award for excellent performance by international students at German universities. Her book Among Women was published in 2015 by the renowned international art book publisher Kerber. Her pictures have been published by Die Zeit, Brigitte, Brigitte Wir, FAZ, NZZ, Geomini, Fluter, IHK Magazin, WIENERIN Magazin, Tagesspiegel Sonntag and Photonews, among others. The photographer sees the focus of her work in the field of documentary and reportage photography with a focus on Iran. Since 2017 she has been employed as a research assistant in the cooperation project TWO CITIES between the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and the University of Art Tehran.
