The Appearance of the Real: How People navigate Reality
Political and educational authorities regularly question video gamers' ability to distinguish between virtual realities and the real world. Given the rapid improvement of virtual and mixed-reality technologies, this question is often discussed without sufficient consideration of the current state of cognitive sciences.
Thus, the lecture offers invaluable insights into the questions...
- How does the brain categorize virtual worlds as ‘real’ or ‘not real,’ and which cognitive processes play a role in this.
- How visual and contextual cues frame virtual experiences.
- How the mediated nature of an experience opens up creative expression possibilities for designers.
