"What exactly is it about?

As part of our master's thesis, we've created a play inspired by Ronja Ebeling's book “Jung, unbesorgt, unabhängig” (Young, Carefree, Independent). This play introduces an exciting new hybrid theater format that beautifully blends reading and acting. Ronja Ebeling will join us in person to read from her book, making the experience truly special. Between the chapters, there will be lively sketches that highlight and enrich what’s been read.

Ever wondered what happens when we listen directly to a generation rather than just talking about them?

*GEN-Z Overload – A Generation in Crisis* is an evening dedicated to exploring what it’s like to grow up during a time of significant change. Through a mix of reading, scenes, and reflection, a fresh, hybrid form of political theater comes to life—creating a welcoming space for questions, contradictions, and new viewpoints.

Using Ronja Ebeling’s book as a foundation, we invite the audience into the mind of a generation that carries a lot—yet often goes unheard. Between Ronja’s readings from her book, sketches will unfold, turning social challenges like PENSION, WORK, CLIMATE, MENTAL health, and more into characters with their own concerns.

The texts are heartfelt, direct, sometimes fiery, often vulnerable, and always seeking answers. What you’ll see is a clever, emotionally stirring, and deeply humorous reflection on today’s realities. This production creates space for a generation that is frequently overlooked or misunderstood in public discussions.

*GEN-Z Overload* isn’t about assigning blame; it’s a collective invitation to observe, listen, and participate. An evening that reminds us how complex our world is—and that we still have the power to shape it.

**About the creators:**

Maria Kalaitzakis (28) and Dilara Yilmaz (29) are students of scenography at the University of Applied Sciences in Dortmund. They met during their studies—what started as a project became a friendship, and that friendship blossomed into a creative partnership. Maria previously studied architecture in Bochum, while Dilara pursued interior design at the Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences in Detmold.

Their strength lies in blending interior design, visual storytelling, and socially meaningful themes. What began as a joint master's thesis quickly evolved into a standalone project: *GEN-Z Overload* reflects their shared passion for addressing the issues their generation faces and their desire to find innovative ways to highlight and understand these topics. Their approach is truly interdisciplinary, conceptual, and rooted in social awareness.

WDR will be filming the evening. The stage area will be recorded, but the individual audience members will remain private."
