The Department of Design is very pleased that SANNE DE WILDE will strengthen its staff internationally as a substitute professor for photo journalism and documentary photography from the summer semester 2021.
#SanneDeWilde (Belgium) explores the influence of genetic factors on individuals and society in her pictures. Her recordings show people with diseases who are socially marginalized. She received her Masters in Fine Arts with distinction from KASK in Ghent in 2012. Her photo series "The Dwarf Empire" received the Photo Academy Award 2012 and the International Photography Award Emergentes DST 2013. Her series “Snow White” was awarded the 16ème Prix National Photographie Ouverte and the NuWork Award for Photographic Excellence. In 2014 she received the Nikon Press Award and in 2016 the award for “Most Promising Young Photographer”. In 2014 the British Journal of Photography named De Wilde one of the “best new talent in the world”. In 2016 she received the Firecracker grant. In 2018 she received the World Press Award in the "Portrait" category, together with Benedict Kurzen. She has also published in publications around the world (Guardian, New Yorker, Le Monde, CNN, Vogue) and exhibited internationally (Voies OFF, Tribeca Film Festival, Circulations, Lagos Photo, Lodz Fotofestiwal, STAM and Fotoforum Brasschaat).
De Wilde has been working for De Volkskrant in Amsterdam since 2013 and is now teaching in Dortmund!
