LECTURE Wednesday, December 18, 2019, the media artist Achim Mohné visits us and talks about his work, this time from 5 p.m.
Achim Mohné works with time-based media such as computers, the Internet and sound in the areas of installation, performance and public intervention. At the interface of apparatus, interface, software, action and intermediality, the media are questioned with regard to their nature and function. As an ongoing process of questioning technically generated images, he uses i.a. Drones, undermines existing surveillance systems or occupies parasitic commercial image distribution systems. In 2007, together with Uta Kopp, he founded the REMOTEWORDS communication project, which installed large-format messages on roofs. The "distant words" are spread through Google Earth and Apple Maps and thus misused in the sense of a detour to the transmitter of artistic messages. Mohné's current projects investigate the view of virtual globes on the urban landscape and on art in public space. Using a specially developed process that "tries to recapture the data from Google Earth", the surveying of our cities by photogrammetry with photographic means is brought in to create three-dimensional models.
