Grüne Chemie & Fotografie als Motiv
Claudia Rohrauer gibt einen Einblick in eine reflexive Arbeitspraxis, in welcher das Medium Fotografie mittels Theorie, Technik, Prozess und Praxis umkreist und somit selbst zum Motiv wird. Anhand von zwei laufenden Langzeitprojekten werden unterschiedliche Ansätze vorgestellt, die das der Fotografie immanente Spannungsfeld zwischen Technik und Inhalt untersuchen, hinterfragen und mitunter auch dekonstruieren. Der Vortrag führt zunächst in das Feld der nachhaltigen Dunkelkammer und stellt anhand der künstlerischen Forschung der Werkstätte für Analoge Fotografie an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien "grüne" Alternativen zur herkömmlichen Laborchemie vor und skizziert vor diesem Hintergrund eine mögliche Zukunft der Silberbilder sowie die Konsequenzen jener Arbeitspraxis für die Bildproduktion. Daran anschließend folgt ein Einblick zu den Projekten Fotografie als Motiv und FOTOTECHNIKa im Kollektiv mit Caroline Heider, Ruth Horak und Lisa Rastl. Die Gruppe arbeitet seit 2019 in Form von Ausstellungen, Publikationen und Symposien zusammen.
Claudia Rohrauer lebt und arbeitet in Wien, Österreich. Sie studierte an der Schule für künstlerische Fotografie Friedl Kubelka Wien und Bildende Kunst an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien in den Abteilungen Kunst und Fotografie und Video sowie Videoinstallation. Sie erhielt den Outstanding Artist Award für künstlerische Fotografie des bm:koes und den Anerkennungspreis für Fotografie des Landes Niederösterreich 2020. Gemeinsam mit Lisa Rastl leitet sie ab 2021 die Werkstatt für analoge Fotografie an der Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien und hat dort einen Lehrauftrag. Dort forscht sie mit künstlerisch-wissenschaftlichen Methoden zum Themenbereich der nachhaltigen Dunkelkammer und non-toxischen Fotochemikalien. Mehr unter https://claudiarohrauer.info

Green Chemistry & Photography as a Motif
Claudia Rohrauer gives an insight into a reflexive working practice in which the medium of photography is circled by means of theory, technique, process, and practice and thus becomes a motif itself. Based on two ongoing long-term projects, different approaches will be presented that examine, scrutinize, and sometimes deconstruct the inherent tension between technique and content in photography. The lecture first introduces the field of the sustainable darkroom and presents "green" alternatives to conventional laboratory chemistry based on the artistic research of the Workshop for Analogue Photography at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and, against this background, outlines a possible future for silver images and the consequences of this working practice for image production. This is followed by an insight into the projects Photography as Motif and FOTOTECHNIKa in the collective with Caroline Heider, Ruth Horak, and Lisa Rastl. The group has been working together since 2019 through exhibitions, publications, and symposia.
Claudia Rohrauer lives and works in Vienna, Austria. She studied at the School of Artistic Photography Friedl Kubelka Vienna and Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the departments of Art and Photography and Video as well as Video Installation. She received the Outstanding Artist Award for artistic photography from the bm:koes and the Recognition Award for Photography from the Province of Lower Austria in 2020. Together with Lisa Rastl, she has headed the workshop for analog photography at the University of Applied Arts Vienna in 2021 and has a teaching position there.
