In Europe, Germany is one of the countries with the highest number of childless people. Despite the increasing number of this life model, discrimination, stigmatization and taboo take place against people with an uterus who have the definite wish for a childless life. Especially women wanting a sterilization are often left alone with no support from gynecologists.
The work “motherhood” shares intimate life stories of women not wanting kids. It addresses difficulties of a sterilization as the ultimate contraceptive method, caused by social norms. The photographic essay combines personal stories with medical and sociological backgrounds to provide a platform for broad-based information and to open up perspectives.
